    Feb. 7 – 11

Overview: Students will use 5th grade prior knowledge to estimate and find exact measurements using appropriate tools. (angles, perimeter, area, volume, time, temperature)  Using their knowledge of ratios and proportions, measurement units will be converted within the customary and metric systems.

Focus: Students will use prior knowledge to estimate the measurement of angles, perimeter, area, volume,  and circumference.  Students will also apply their knowledge of basic measurement to explore the relationships between the radius, diameter, and circumference of a circle.

    TEKS: 6.6(C), 6.8(A), 6.11(A), 6.11(D), 6.12(A)

    Lessons:

    • Monday: Area of Trapezoids.  Assignment is PzD-58.
    • Tuesday: Review for 4th 6 weeks test.  Assignment is Review packet.
    • Wednesday: 4th 6 weeks test.  No assignment.
    • Thursday: Investigating Circles.  Assignment is P8-10.  Powerpoint notes in spiral.
    • Friday: Circumference of Circles.  Assignment is Finding Circumference worksheet.  Powerpoint notes in spiral.

      Jan. 24-28

Overview: Using the 5th grade prior knowledge of geometry, students will classify angles (acute, obtuse, and right).  Relationships between the angles of triangles and quadrilaterals will be used to find missing angle measures.  Points will be located in Quadrant I using rational numbers.  Students will also apply their knowledge of basic measurement to explore the relationships between radius, diameter, and the circumference of a circle.

Focus: Using 5th grade prior knowledge of classifying triangles and quadrilaterals, students will use the relationships between angles of these geometric figures to find missing angle measures.

      TEKS: 6.1(A), 6.2(B), 6.2(D), 6.11(A)

      Lessons:

      • Monday: Identifying triangles by their sides and angles.  Assignment is pg. 449 (8-28, 37-42).  Powerpoint notes in spiral.  Also, since we are talking about finding the missing angle measure, show how a triangle’s angles sum to 180.
      • Tuesday: Identifying/classifying quadrilaterals.  Assignment is PzD-39.  Notes handout and powerpoint presentation.
      • Wednesday: Congruent and Similar Figures.  Assignment is R8-8.

      Jan. 17-21

Overview: Students will use 5th grade prior knowledge to estimate and find exact measurements using appropriate tools. (angles, perimeter, area, volume, time, temperature)  Using their knowledge of ratios and proportions, measurement units will be converted within the customary and metric systems.
